Founded in 1953, the department of production engineering was relocationed with our university from Beijing and Shandong to current buautiful coastal city, Qingdao. The department has become one of major departments in the School of Petroleum Engineering. It has 25 faculty members including 6 professors, 12 associate professors, and 6 lecturers. The deparment can offer the curricula of production engineering, gas production engineering, sand control, artificial lift, multiphase flow theroy, EOR theory and technology.

　　The major research area focus on artifical lift, natural gas andcoal bed gas development, multiphase flow, stimulation, sand control, completion, EOR, gas injection, heavy oil prodction, and produciton information technology, etc. The department has undertakn research project of "973", "863", national nature foundation and national key projects. Besides, lots of research projected are cooperated with CNPC, and SINOPEC. Regular domestic and international conferences on foam fluid-based EOR and heavy oil production technology are hosted annually by the department .

　　To facilitate research and teaching, various laboratories are set up, including multiphase flow lab, artificial lift lab, fracturing and acdizing lab, sand control lab, foam fluid lab, physical and ecologic chemistry lab, etc. Research centers subsidary to the department include production information software development center, foam fluid research institute, and physical and ecologic chemical enginnering center.

　　The department has been awarded with prize of various level for 50 times, including 3 National Science and Technology prizes, 40 prizes of provincial level. More than 300 SCI and EI indexed academic papers and 30 books have been published.
